Material Types of Color Boxes

Materials for color boxes are divided into two main categories: face paper and corrugated paper.
Commonly used face papers for color boxes include:
coated duplex board, grey back paperboard, white top paperboard, solid bleached board, glossy card, gold card, white gold card, silver card, laser card, kraft paper, etc.
There are two types of “white-top white-back paper”:
  1. White top paperboard (white copper)
  2. Solid bleached board (single copper)
They share the same feature: both sides are white.
The difference is:
  • White top paperboard: one side is coated (smooth, printable), the other uncoated (rough, not printable).
  • Solid bleached board: both sides are coated, so both sides can be printed.
Grey back grey board exists but is not used for color boxes.
Grey back white board, also known as grey back paperboard, has a white printable front side and a grey unprintable back side.
Ordinary white card generally refers to “white-top white-back paper”, which is often shortened in quotations, except for special white cards such as white gold card and silver card.
Coated duplex board: one side white, one side grey, lower cost.
Double-coated paper: both sides white, higher cost.
The material used for a color box is determined by the shape and size of the product.
Common specifications include:
280g coated duplex board, 300g coated duplex board, 350g coated duplex board,
260g coated duplex board mounted with E-flute, 260g double-coated paper mounted with E-flute, etc.
According to the packaging weight and product positioning, commonly used materials are:
  • Coated duplex board: generally 250g–450g
  • Art paper (coated paper): generally 250g–400g
